Pressed flower prints – a gift that will last

22 Mar

Preparing flowers to be pressed

Ok, I know Mother’s Day has been and gone but I couldn’t post this before the day as we were giving these as Mother’s Day presents.

A few weeks ago we picked some flowers from the garden and pressed them between some normal sheets of paper, in preparation for this craft idea.  You don’t need a flower press, just pop them between the pages of a heavy book.

Two weeks later and the flowers were ready to use.  I asked Lily to tell me what she loved about her Nanny and her Grandma and we started by writing this in the centre of our card.  Lily had lots of fun arranging the pressed flowers around the words and then decorating it with some flower stems.

She was very proud of the finished gift and Nanny and Grandma loved it too! You could use this idea for any special occasion – or just to say ‘I love you’

One for the mantlepiece!

Win a Spa Day at Cedar Falls Health Farm

Peace and tranquility await you at Cedar Falls

I’ve been lucky enough to stay at Cedar Falls in the past.  My mum and I went a couple of times, before the children arrived and I actually had time to myself!  Set in a stunning location in Somerset, Cedar Falls is a haven of peace and tranquility. From the moment you arrive it’s as if you have stepped back in time.  No televisions, no mobile phones and no laptops, just time to read, chat, relax and be pampered.

Banish any thoughts of stuffy, clinical health farms with carrot juice and colonic irrigation. Cedar Falls is more like a posh hotel with spa facilities. When you arrive you are given a big fluffy robe to wear for the duration of your visit and if it is your first stay you will be given a guided tour of the spa from one of the friendly members of staff. There are many exercise and fitness classes available which are all included in the cost of your stay.  Treatments are available for an extra fee and, having tried a few I can highly recommend then.  The therapists are wonderful, very friendly and they truly go out of their way to make you feel relaxed.

In between yoga or massage you can chill in the hot tub, pool, steam room, sauna or swimming pool. We used to spend a lot of time lazing in the indoor or outdoor pool, reading and chatting.  I can’t actually think of a better way to unwind than a visit here.

The food at Cedar Falls is fantastic. Lunch is buffet style and there’s no teeny tiny portions here. Just help yourself to whatever you want. We don’t all go to a health farm to count calories do we! Dinner is a 3 course meal, with wine if you want it. I can usually be persuaded to have a glass or two…

Win a Mother's Day Bouquet from Wiggly Wigglers

A few weeks back, a very special friend of mine sent me a bouquet of dried flowers from Wiggly Wigglers.  It was the first time I’d had dried flowers in the post, I didn’t even really know that you could get them.  They’ve had pride of place on my dining room table since then and because they are dried they look just as good as the day they arrived.

I had heard of Wiggly Wigglers before but I had associated them with wormeries and didn’t realise they offered this service to their customers.  I went onto their website and they have a really wide range of products for anyone interested in gardening.  They sell a range of plants which are tailored to specific requirements, such as ‘The children’s 5 a day ready plot’  which contains a luscious selection of plug plants for your little ones to nurture.

They have a great range of eco products, including socks made from gorgeous goat mohair, a wide range of composting products (including of course their famous wormeries) and their selection of eco products for the home is vast!  If you haven’t visited them lately do pop over to their website – we love it!

I’m quite tempted to try one of their wormeries, it’s something we’ve always talked about but I’m not sure where we will put it, the children are taking over our garden!

This month’s competition prize is a gorgeous british grown Mother’s day bouquet from Wiggly Wigglers.  It’s easy to enter, just tell us which is your favourite product from their website.  Send your answer, along with your name, address and telephone number to tracy@greenmums.co.uk

The closing date is Wednesday 30th March and your bouquet will be delivered on Saturday 2nd April (the day before Mother’s day).  We will contact the winner to find out which address you would like the bouquet sent to.  UK addresses only please.
